Apple Excavates Amazon's Former TV Business Manager to Rejuvenate Apple TV Products

[Global Scientific Report] According to Yahoo!'s February 9 report, Bloomberg News reported that Timothy Tord, the former head of television operations at Amazon, has joined Apple as vice president and is responsible for the Apple TV (TV set-top box) business.

From the personal resume of Timothy Told in English, he has previously served as a senior executive of companies such as Rocco, Netflix and Motorola. He recently joined Apple and is mainly responsible for Apple’s television product business.

Apple TV was launched in 2007 and it has been updated four times by 2015. The 32G storage version is priced at US$150 (approximately RMB1029), and the 64GB storage version is priced at US$200 (approximately RMB1,373). Apple hasn't disclosed Apple TV sales since 2015, even though Apple said it has sold 2.5 million TV products. However, due to the high price of Apple TV in 2016 and the lack of support from Amazon Video and Spotify, the sales situation is not good.

In contrast, Amazon Fire TV sales under the control of Timothy Toldere have continued to show a rising trend. In 2017, users will surpass Roku, expect to double their sales target by 2020, and have a 27% market share in the United States. The market share of Apple TV is only 12.8.
