Recently, a German Institute of Applied Optics and Precision Engineering called Fraunhofer presented a miniature projector with new OLED technology.
Instead of using DLP or LCOS technology used in general pico projectors, it uses OLED technology, and the biggest benefit of this technology is that it only requires static optical systems, such as lenses. Since the OLED is capable of self-illumination, there is no need for a DLP such projection technique that utilizes reflected light.
The projector uses an 8 x 6mm green OLED panel that can project 640 x 480 images. In terms of size, the diameter is only 17mm, the length is only 24mm, and the entire volume is only 10 cubic centimeters. In terms of performance, the projector currently projects a 6-inch screen at a distance of 30-50 cm, but it now faces the same problems as LED projectors - too low brightness.
However, according to the inventor, OLED technology is still developing. If the brightness can reach 4-5 times in the future, this technology will be maximized.
