Appreciation of night lighting case: let LED lighting become the most sacred

It’s no stranger to mention the word “袈裟”, but it’s refreshing to associate it with “lights” or to make the lights “袈裟”. When I was browsing the wonderful case recently, I saw a case in which the sacred "light" was draped over the Buddha image by clever use of lighting means. This is the case of the Lusna Buddha Buddha Night Scene Lighting Project.

The Lushen Buddha Buddha Temple is the largest and most exquisite group of cliff-shaped Buddha statues in the Longmen Grottoes. This cave was excavated in Tang Gaozongchu. According to legend, Tang Gaozong Li Zhi was specially built on the image of Empress Wu Zetian. It is a Tang culture. The greatest symbol of the remains, the overall Buddha image reflects the characteristics of the Buddha statues of the Tang Dynasty, the shape of the face is plump, the ears are drooping, the form is full and serene, warm and friendly, and very moving. There are nine large statues in the middle, and the main Buddha in the middle is the Great Buddha of Lushen, the Buddha of Sakyamuni (see below).

According to historical records, the large image of Lushen was originally colored, but it has fallen off after thousands of years of weathering. It is difficult to see the overall shape, and it is difficult to show all the charm. The lighting engineering design is to reproduce the prosperity of Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty. Through the lighting design and creativity, the “color” of each Buddha image will restore the brilliance image of the Buddha statue, so that visitors can feel the majestic, solemn and mysterious feeling of the Buddha at night. This puts high demands on the understanding of the essence of Buddhist culture, including its understanding of color concept, artistic style and expression technique. The performance of lighting directly affects the artistic sense and environmental atmosphere of Buddha statues. Important role.

In the end, Lushen was completed by the projection lighting implementation scheme: 25 sets of 710W, 5500lm engineering DLP projectors, seamless fusion splicing technology, solved the limitations of on-site close-range installation, and carried out multiple group projections, effectively Improve the light efficiency of the projector, and optically repair the defective parts of the Buddha's surface artistically, making the stone carving art beautiful and dazzling in the night scene (as shown in the photo below).

This project is quite similar to the lighting project design project of Nanshan Mountain in Lushi County, Henan Province. The design target is the Luyuan Cultural Square in Lushi County, Henan Province, with the platform along the Luohe River Bank. Including the lighting project of Wenshan and Wushan Mountain (as shown below).

According to the requirements of the bidding documents, our main difficulty is the landscape lighting design for Wenwu Ershan . After several inferences and arguments, we believe that the lighting design should emphasize the combination of lighting content and Lushi's regional characteristics and history and culture. Incorporating regional features into text creation and music arrangement, combined with local history and culture, through the various modes of expression such as laser and various lighting, remote color cast, water curtain, etc., the local heavy culture and rich regional characteristics are presented. In the end, the project's performance was divided into three modes: weekday mode, holiday mode and major holiday mode.

Weekday mode

The weekday mode uses energy-saving as the main line of design. It mainly displays the “Lushi” on the slope surface with LED floodlights, fully displays the regionality, and introduces ideas into the delusion of the ancient charm of Lushi's millennium culture. LED floodlights outline the ridgeline, in the outline of the technique: Wenshan expresses the trend of “light and elegant ink”, and Wushan shows the glory of “powerful and powerful”. Wenwu echoes, reflecting the cultural heritage of the mountain itself.

Holiday mode

The festival mode focuses on the expression of a peaceful and jubilant atmosphere, and the laser light at the top of the Wenwu Mountain is opened to present a dance dynamic. The mountain LED floodlights are all open from top to bottom, and are intended to express the potential cultural spirit of Wenwu Shuangshan. The led light is turned on from top to bottom, showing a flowing picture, meaning that Lushi culture is like the water of the Yellow River, and it also symbolizes that Lushi culture is a bright pearl in the Yellow River culture.

Major holiday mode

As a tourist attraction, it is deeply immersed in the implication of the ancient Lushi culture and is deeply impressed.

Open all the lights of the mountain and the laser projection lamp of the square project the Lushi cultural elements on the slope, showing the rich cultural heritage of Lushi, and the bright light of the mountain indicates that the ancient charm of Lushi is wonderful. The laser water curtain shows the cultural heritage of Lushi, and it is impassioned and tempered. The mountain view and the scene are integrated, and the close-up and distant views are inextricably linked, and they echo each other to create a beautiful visual feast.

Through the enlightenment of the above cases, I believe that landscape lighting planning should firstly comprehensively analyze and rationalize the spatial characteristics, culture and economy, avoiding the same lighting design methods and lighting effects. In addition, lighting also requires the application of cultural elements, applying the lighting to the culture just right, and making culture and lighting more Organic and coordinated integration will be achieved and harmonious. At this point, I hope that lighting designers can focus on the integration of lighting and culture in the design, so that lighting becomes the messenger of culture!
