On the evening of October 30th, the lecture hall of Wu Zongmin’s “Interpretation Design†was held in the Auditorium of the Student Activity Center of the Changgang Road Campus (Old Campus) of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. This lecture is the "Three of the series of lectures designed by 100 restaurants", which mainly describes Wu Zongmin's design concept and introduces the outstanding works created in 2007. The lecture was warmly welcomed by the teachers and students and was highly concerned by related media including Guangzhou Interior Design Network and Shambhala.
The lecture was held for 2 hours in two parts: the first part was Wu Zongmin's understanding of the design and introduced his newly created outstanding works, including his gold medal in the second Guangzhou Decoration Competition (Guangzhou). What is the design?
As an old alumnus of Guangmei, Wu Zongmin had a preparatory lecture at his alma mater on the afternoon of the 30th and had dinner at the student canteen. He said that he felt very cordial. At the beginning of the lecture, Wu Zongmin told the alumni of the audience about his deep nostalgia for his alma mater. Then Wu Zongmin asked a question to the students in the audience: What is the design? As a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, the theoretical class in the classroom must have learned the definition of design, but Wu Zongmin put forward personal insights: design is planning! Design is tangible and needs to be done; planning is intangible and requires brains.
Wu Zongmin believes that design is implemented around planning, and material is the most important way to achieve design. It is necessary to attach great importance to the role of materials. Designers should enter the market and explore new uses of materials. Wu Zongmin particularly emphasized that it is not expensive materials or good materials. It is the key to choosing the right one. Wu Zongmin has a negative attitude toward the practice of investing in engineering projects in many competitions.
