Each channel of the LT3597 contains a constant current sinking LED driver and a dedicated adaptive output buck converter. This design provides the highest efficiency for applications such as RGB displays where each LED string requires a different output voltage. At 48V input, the LT3597 can drive up to 3 LED strings (each string consisting of up to 10 100mA LEDs in series), providing over 90% efficiency. Each LED string can be independently set to provide up to 100mA of LED current with ±2% current matching accuracy between LED strings. In addition, each channel can be individually dimmed using True Color PWM dimming to provide a dimming ratio of up to 10,000:1. Operating from a programmable fixed frequency of 200kHz to 1MHz and a current mode architecture ensure stable operation over a wide range of supply and output voltages, minimizing the size of external components. In addition, the switching frequency can be synchronized to an external clock. Housed in a thermally enhanced 5mm x 8mm QFN package, the LT3597 is a very compact solution for LED lighting applications.

The LT3597 uses three independent 400mA, 60V internal switches to provide a step-down constant current source. The internal buck converter uses an adaptive feedback loop to regulate the output voltage slightly above the required LED voltage to ensure maximum efficiency. If any string of LEDs has an open or shorted fault, the LT3597 continues to regulate the other LED strings and signal the FAULT pin. Other features include derating the LED current based on the temperature and/or LED temperature and disconnecting the LED during shutdown.
