Littelfuse , a global leader in circuit protection, today announced the availability of a compact 777 series fuse to protect high-wattage chargers for battery-powered electronic devices. Although chargers of earlier generations of mobile phones have relatively low wattages (typically about 5W), today's highly compact chargers typically must handle 10-15W of electrical energy, which requires a higher level of current. The axial lead type 3.6mm x 9mm 777 series fuses feature an innovative filler material that balances the surge tolerance to avoid false tripping of the fuse and the safe blown capability during short circuits. The 777 series' stable design allows it to withstand up to 24 7.5kV ring surges and safely disconnects in the event of a direct short circuit, without generating smoke, sparks and sound. Typical applications include smartphone and tablet chargers and 10?20W power supply modules for other battery-powered consumer electronics.
