1. Why is it more difficult for the engine to start in winter?

The starting of the engine is determined not only by its own technical conditions, but also by the outside temperature. Starting at low temperatures in winter is more difficult, mainly due to the following reasons:

(1) The winter climate is cold, the ambient temperature is low, the viscosity of the oil increases, and the frictional resistance of each moving machine increases, which makes the starting speed lower and difficult to start.

(2) The battery capacity decreases with decreasing temperature, which further reduces the starting speed.

(3) As the starting speed decreases, the leakage of compressed air increases, and the heat dissipation of the cylinder wall increases, causing the temperature and pressure of the air to be greatly reduced at the end of compression, so that the delay period of diesel ignition increases, and even when it is severe, it cannot burn.

(4) The viscosity of diesel oil at low temperature increases, so that the injection speed is reduced, and the swirling speed, temperature and pressure of the air at the end of compression are relatively low, so that the quality of the atomization of the diesel injected into the cylinder is poor, and it is difficult to form a good air quickly. The combustible gas burns in time and can't even catch fire, which makes starting difficult.

2. Conditions for good engine starting performance

(1) There must be sufficient starting speed. The starting speed is high, the gas leakage in the cylinder is small, the time for the compressed air to transfer heat to the cylinder wall is short, and the heat loss is small, so that the gas temperature and pressure at the end of the compression are improved. Generally, the speed is required to be above 1_0_0_r_/_m_i_n_.

(2) The sealing of the cylinder is better. This can further reduce the amount of air leakage, ensure that the gas has sufficient combustion temperature and pressure at the end of compression, and the compression pressure of the cylinder must not be lower than the standard value of 8_0_%_.

(3) It is required that the matching clearance between the engine and the running mechanism is appropriate and the lubrication is good.

(4) The battery must have sufficient starting capacity and the technical status of the starting circuit is normal.

(5) The starting oil quantity meets the requirements, the injection quality is good, and the injection advance angle should meet the requirements.

(6) Use fuel that meets the requirements.



3. Mechanical fault diagnosis and repair of the crankshaft unable to rotate when the engine starts

When the engine is started, if the starting system is intact, if the transmission is placed in the neutral position and the start switch is pressed, the starter will sound and the crankshaft will not rotate, which is a mechanical failure. The causes and diagnosis and repair methods that cause the engine crankshaft to not rotate are as follows.

(1) Reason

1 The starter and the flywheel teeth are not properly meshed. The ring gear and the starter gear collide when starting the engine, causing tooth damage or single-sided wear of the teeth. If the teeth are damaged or worn more than three times in a row, the starter gear and the ring gear teeth are difficult to engage.

2 Stick the cylinder. When the engine temperature is too high, the engine is turned off and the heat is hard to dissipate. The piston ring at high temperature is stuck to the cylinder and cannot be started after cooling.

3 Crankshaft is locked. The dry friction of the sliding bearing caused by the failure of the lubrication system or the lack of oil, so that the crankshaft is finally locked and cannot be started.

4 The fuel pump plunger is stuck.

(2) Diagnosis and repair methods

1 If the flywheel has more than three consecutive teeth damage and is just opposite the starter teeth, the two gears will not engage. In this state, just use the pry bar to turn the flywheel at an angle, and then press the start button to start smoothly. For damaged flywheel teeth, solder repair is generally available.

2 When the ring gear is loose, it can be confirmed from the mounting end of the flywheel housing starter. If the ring gear is loose, new parts must be replaced. When installing, the ring gear should be heated in the heating box, and then pressed on the flywheel, and then fastened to the flywheel after cooling.

3 When the teeth of the ring gear are severely worn on one side, the ring gear can be pressed down, the front and rear end faces are turned over, and then mounted on the flywheel.

4 After checking that the gear meshing is normal, the flywheel does not rotate when starting, it should be regarded as internal engine failure, such as crankshaft lock, piston stuck cylinder, clutch stuck, etc., which should be further observed. You can check the clutch for damage and jam, and then check if the injection pump plunger is stuck and there is any foreign matter inside the engine.
