Overview The MAX1924 is a Li-Ion/Li-Polymer (Li+) battery pack protection chip for 3- or 4-cell Li+ battery packs. Monitor the voltage of each battery and prevent overvoltage/undervoltage, which effectively extends the working life of Li+ batteries. Fault protection such as overcharge/over discharge current and battery pack short circuit is also provided. When a fault occurs, the on-board driver controls the external P-channel MOSFET and disconnects the battery and battery pack external terminals. The external MOSFET protection tube uses a common source connection and does not require an external pull-up resistor. The MAX1924 uses only one current-sense resistor for protection. All protection thresholds and delays do not require external component settings and are factory preset. If any of the battery voltages are below the undervoltage threshold, the MAX1924 will disconnect the battery pack from the load to prevent overdischarge of the battery pack. The MAX1924 features trickle charge, which provides a low current path to the overdischarged battery pack for safe charging. The /MAX1924 has two logic-level inputs that disable the MOSFET protection and shutdown devices under microcontroller control. The MAX1924 has low quiescent current (30μA typical) and ultra-low shutdown current (0.8μA typical) to prevent The battery is over-discharged.
