“No safety, no physical connection” Unveiled Avnet’s IoT solution

In the past few years, IoT vendors have paid little attention to the security of the Internet of Things. They believe that this will increase costs and cause a lot of trouble. But nowadays, everyone has found that the security of the Internet of Things is indispensable. If you don't pay attention to security, serious people will also affect their own development. Therefore, at the 3rd China IoT Conference - Software and Hardware Platform Sub-forum held by E-Friends Network, Avnet's senior business manager, Li Weichang, introduced us to the solution that Avnet used to face the security of the Internet of Things.

The Philips Hue, Chrysler, and automatic dispensing machines mentioned in the figure have been cracked by the more famous security incidents that have occurred in the Internet of Things. Compared with Internet security, it is only the disclosure of information. The security of the Internet of Things is obviously more terrible, and it may directly harm the personal safety.

In the face of these sensational IoT security incidents, Li Weichang believes: "If the manufacturer can't achieve real security in the security of the Internet of Things, don't go online, because this is likely to be counterproductive and the consequences are unimaginable."

Li Weichang introduced some of the major IoT security solutions in the global category, including the One M2M solution and the AllJoyn solution. However, there are no more recognized programs, because the IoT audience is very large and the difference is serious, which leads to slow progress in the development of security programs.

Li Weichang said that the current Internet of Things security system is generally divided into two parts. Part of it is from the gateway to the server. This part is relatively standard and relatively uniform, and is defined as using the X.509 standard. The other part is from the gateway to the network device, this part needs to be realized by hardware encryption chip. Based on the second method, Li Weichang proposed three suggestions: one is to first authenticate a device and the device, the other is to encrypt data, and the third is to verify the validity of the information.

Internet of Things is increasingly demanding security

How does Avnet solve this kind of insecure IoT market? Li Weichang introduced two security solutions: the first new security technology called PUF, which is characterized by the absence of keys in the chip system, making it impossible for hackers to start. It is expected to greatly improve the security protection of data information in electronic terminal equipment, and effectively prevent security risks such as information loss, theft, and illegal copying, thereby protecting information security.

The second is a security solution implemented by Avnet to write services. It is to automatically write the code of the cooperative enterprise into the security chip through Avnet's machine, the whole process is not manually written. These two programs have the characteristics of safe development convenience, cost-saving, and ease of OEM management.

Li Weichang focused on PUF security technology, he said: "PUF-based secure storage integrated security chip with PUF and encryption algorithm can effectively eliminate vulnerabilities based on NVM memory chips. Since the storage key is generated in PUF, it will not be stored in memory. Medium, so the key cannot be stolen."

In the future, as the world's leading distributor of IT solutions, Avnet will continue to make more secure and reliable solutions to promote the healthy development of the Internet of Things.
