Razer joins Khronos Group member officially supports Vulkan specification

The Khronos Group released a brief statement on Thursday, and PC game peripheral manufacturer Ray Snake has officially become one of its members. The Khronos Group is a non-profit organization behind the open source Vulkan API. Now Vulkan API has been widely used in PC games, gradually replacing DirectX and OpenGL API.

Khronos Group said: "Razer is a world leader in device connectivity and software for players. Its award-winning design and technology systems, peripherals, audio and wearable technology. Razer co-founded OSVR, which is an open source platform. , integrated VR, AR and mixed reality hardware and software APIs that support the universal VR ecosystem."

The Khronos group launched the Vulkan specification, driver and software development kit on February 16 this year for all modern graphics chips in PCs, game consoles, mobile devices and embedded platforms. This allows software such as PC games and graphics-intensive applications to communicate directly with the graphics chip to a certain degree to achieve optimal performance.

Unlike Microsoft DirectX (originally for Microsoft Windows), Vulkan targets different operating systems. Companies that now support Vulkan through video card drivers include AMD, Nvidia, Intel, Qualcomm and several other companies. Epic Games' Unreal engine also supports the new Vulkan API.

The Vulkan API is part of AMD's "Mantle" program and aims to provide game developers with graphics chips based on the Graphics Core Next architecture. There are many layers of software and consumers will see the outermost layer. Mantle, Vulkan, and the latest version of DirectX are more "blatant" than the APIs we have seen in the past. Developers have better access to the underlying hardware to create the best smooth experience. Vulkan has expanded Mantle by supporting AMD's hardware.

I believe we will not be surprised that Razer participated in the open source Vulkan project because the company co-founded the open source OSVR. Both projects seem to have similar goals. Razer hopes to provide the best service for PC players around the world, and Vulkan seems to have a similar vision.
