Xiong Wei, deputy general manager of China Unicom's major personnel adjustment, was dismissed

Yesterday, China Unicom announced a major personnel adjustment. Xiong Wei and Zhang Yuan no longer served as deputy general managers and members of the party group of China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. The news was also confirmed yesterday by China Unicom's official Weibo.

Zhang has been in charge of China Unicom's network construction. He is the direct leader of Zhang Zhijiang, the former general manager of China Unicom's network construction department, and Zong Xinhua, former general manager of the information and e-commerce business unit. Xiong Wei worked in China Unicom's prefectures and provincial subsidiaries in early years. In December 2013, he was transferred to China Unicom's marketing department as general manager, and then as China Unicom's deputy general manager. He has been in charge of the market in Unicom.

According to public information, after the Central Inspection Team entered China Unicom at the end of 2014, Zhang Zhijiang, who was responsible for network construction of Unicom, and Zong Xinhua, who was responsible for electronic channels, were investigated. In August last year, the Central Organization Department announced that the three major operators collectively changed coaches. In December last year, Chang Xiaobing, the former chairman and party secretary of China Unicom, was taken away for investigation after the chairman and party secretary of New China Telecom.

As early as in the China Unicom Performance Report held in March this year, Wang Unichu, president of China Unicom, confirmed that Zhang Xiaoan, 59, was involved in the investigation of Chang Xiaobing. Since 2014, a number of reports against Xiong Wei have been circulated on the Internet, saying that they were seriously violating the law during their tenure in Hubei.

The relevant person in charge of China Unicom said that “there is no further information” regarding the “related reasons for Xiong’s dismissal and the arrangement of the successor”.
