New Intel Drone Technology

At AUVSI Xponential 2018, Intel disclosed details of the Intel® Insight Platform, a digital asset management system that effectively manages and analyzes aerial data. The show also demonstrated the latest updates to the next-generation flight planning software Intel® Mission Control (Intel® Mission Control) and the Intel® FalconTM 8 + (Intel® FalconTM 8 +) system: additional data to collect more data The payload, as well as the two obstacle avoidance functions of distance maintenance and distance protection.

“We are pleased to introduce a new set of Intel drone technology during the Xponential Show. Now, the hardware and software requirements of the company can be satisfied at the same vendor they are familiar with and trust – Intel will provide them with more Multi-tools to acquire, process, and analyze key information data about their assets and make constructive decisions for their business, said Anil Nanduri, vice president and general manager of Intel's new technology division.

How to manage data

The Intel® Smart Analytics Platform, first released and demonstrated at the InterDrone Drones Show in September 2017, is now deployed to strategic corporate customers in multiple vertical industries. Intel® Smart Analytics Platform is a cloud-based digital asset management system that allows customers to store, share, and manage rich data collected by commercial drone systems. With these aerial data, the Intel® Intelligent Analytics Platform can generate 2D and 3D models, extract measurement data, support cross-team sharing and collaboration, and conduct data analysis. Intel worked with Delair* to jointly develop Intel® Intelligent Analytics Platform capabilities for enterprise customers.

How to plan flight

Intel® Mission Control Software is the next generation of software for the Intel® FalconTM 8+ system, which combines flight planning, project management, and data processing to increase workflow efficiency and improve the commercial automation of drones. Using Intel® Mission Control Software, Intel® FalconTM 8+ drone operators can create 2D and 3D flight plans for commercial surveys, mapping, and inspection tasks.

The flight plan uses an advanced preset mapping mode for automation. At the same time, multi-layer airspace information is integrated to ensure flight safety and compliance. Pre-flight automated safety and system checks help confirm the flight plan before performing the mission. After the task is completed, the software will quickly preview the collected data. In this way, the drone operator can check and verify that the flight covers enough area, overlaps, and even checks the quality of a single 3D image.

Intel® Mission Control Software enables Intel® FalconTM 8+ drone operators to create 2D and 3D flight plans for commercial surveying, mapping, and inspection tasks.

Intel® Mission Control Software is currently undergoing user testing and Intel will continue to make improvements based on advanced features and features.

Which kind of payload to carry?

Intel announced the launch of three new payloads for inspection, surveying, and mapping applications for the Intel® Falcon 8+ system. The Intel HD Imaging payload captures 42 million pixels of images with stunning detail and clarity. It is based on the full-frame Sony* RX1R II camera and generates extremely detailed detection data. This payload also supports RTK through future software upgrades.

Both the Intel Imaging Payload and the Intel Dual Imaging Payload support the ability to avoid obstacles to perform tasks more securely, using a 20 megapixel Sony UMC-R10C camera. The payload can present true colors, add time stamps, and georeferenced images for mapping, surveying, and inspection. The two cameras with Intel's dual imaging payload are mounted on a universal joint frame for simultaneous RGB image capture and thermal imaging. This payload will be available in the next quarter. Intel imaging payloads and Intel HD imaging payloads will be available later this quarter.

The Intel imaging payload supports distance-keeping, distance protection, and two obstacle avoidance features enabled by Intel® RealSenseTM technology.

How to achieve obstacle avoidance

The obstacle avoidance feature enhances the security and reliability of complex tasks. Intel® RealSenseTM technology includes a depth sensing module that transforms the original image stream into a high-resolution 3D depth map.

The obstacle avoidance capabilities of Intel Imaging and Intel Dual Imaging payloads allow the Intel® Falcon 8+ drone to detect and avoid potential obstacles or hazards and maintain a fixed distance from the assets under test during the inspection process. During the mission, the drone will continue to recognize the obstacles in real time, and the 3D depth map of the surrounding environment will be saved to the memory.

How to maintain security leadership

The world’s first UL 3030 certification was awarded to the Intel® FalconTM 8+ drone, further demonstrating Intel’s industry leadership and commitment to operational safety of drone systems. UL 3030 certifies the electrical safety protection of the battery, charger and end product against electric shock and fire. The certification includes evaluation of the mechanical strength of the housing, functional safety requirements, motor safety, injury protection, performance and automation. The Intel® FalconTM 8+ drone was the first drone to receive this certification.
