The market for new energy vehicles is developing rapidly and the demand for power batteries continues to grow. In this context, a number of listed companies have accelerated the deployment of solid-state lithium batteries. According to industry sources, solid-state batteries have higher mileage and longer cruising range. With the improvement of comprehensive technical indicators such as circulation and safety, the market for solid-state battery applications will gradually expand.

With many advantages

Li Feng said that it is currently conducting extensive tests on solid-state batteries, setting up an R&D center and a pilot production line in Ningbo to accelerate the commercialization of solid-state lithium battery technology. At present, the company's solid-state lithium battery is still in the experimental stage, but has passed a number of third-party security tests.

On March 18th, the first-phase project of monolithic large-capacity solid-state polymer power lithium-ion battery invested and constructed by Fujian Tendering Purchase Group was officially put into operation. This power lithium-ion battery has passed the authority test recently. The 10.5-meter pure electric bus equipped with this power lithium-ion battery pack was tested last month. It can safely operate over 410 kilometers with a single charge.

Power batteries are the key core components of new energy vehicles. According to the requirements of the “Energy-saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap”, by 2020, the energy density target for a pure electric vehicle battery is 300Wh/kg, 400Wh/kg in 2025, and 500Wh/kg in 2030.

Compared to liquid lithium-ion batteries, solid-state lithium batteries have the advantages of good safety performance, high energy density and long cycle life. Chen Liquan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, previously stated that “the energy density should be further improved. Now we must consider all-solid-state lithium batteries. The long-term development of the electric vehicle industry requires technical reserves, and all-solid-state lithium batteries are expected to become the dominant technology route for the next generation of automotive power batteries. ”

Listed company actively layout

Judging from the current situation, companies such as BYD and Zhongtian Technology have all deployed in the field of solid-state lithium batteries.

In December 2017, Suifeng Lithium announced that it plans to invest RMB 250 million to build the first-generation solid-state lithium battery R&D pilot production line. According to the plan, in December 2018, the first-generation solid-state lithium-battery production line of the megawatt-hour class achieved sample delivery; in December 2019, it completed sales of 300 million yuan, and the second-generation solid-state lithium battery technology was mature.

In November 2017, Yicheng New Energy announced that it planned to acquire 70 percent of the equity of Henan Pingguo Coal to purchase 70 million yuan and cut into the lithium battery manufacturing sector. The total investment of the 10GWh high specific energy lithium-ion battery project of Pingdingshan National Energy Corporation is 5 billion yuan.

Industry insiders believe that solid-state batteries are expected to solve the problem of low energy density and improve battery safety. It is expected that all-solid-state lithium secondary batteries will enter the terminal market in 2020. With the improvement of comprehensive technical indicators such as cyclicity, override, high and low temperature, and safety, the application of solid-state batteries in the electric vehicle market will gradually expand.
